“In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them and will assist in leading them in the right direction.”
Youth Sports Academy, is a youth development non-profit organization that focuses on enhancing the quality of life for our future leaders of America, our children. Youth Sports Academy has a core value curriculum that integrates character development, community engagement, values-based leadership development, socialization, and peer mentoring. Our vision is to help the youth gain leadership skills, self-confidence, and positive decision-making skills to have a successful future.
Our programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. The program is designed to replace the often-negative challenges of the teen years with extremely positive ones. This program will also help teens develop new perspectives and skills for dealing with the transition to adulthood. The founder, Dwayne Wilson, believes that “every child has talent and potential.” With a focus on increasing self-awareness, communication and goal setting, the program will help develop the values and skills needed to create and maintain a healthier self-image, trustworthy relationships, and productive life skills. We serve youth, young adults, families, schools, and communities throughout the Hampton Roads area at risk of academic failure, dropping out of school, delinquency or becoming chronic offenders, and lacking family dynamics.
Youth Sports Academy includes programs that target children and those that accommodate the needs of youth to prevent them from becoming at-risk. Government agencies, community organizations, schools, and other community members must work together in a comprehensive approach to have the most positive impact on adolescent health and safety. Providing a safe and nurturing environment, for our nation’s youth, can help ensure that adolescents will be healthy and productive members of society. Youth violence and crime affect a community’s economic health, as well as individuals physical and mental health and well-being. There are several neighborhoods and communities that have unique experiences with violence but lack community resources. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to preventing youth violence. However, communities can help reduce youth violence by developing a city-wide strategy that combines prevention and intervention strategies.
